Daddy: Meh. Pantomime-level CGI twaddle with Kiera Knightly channeling Jean from Eastenders.

The House With A Clock In Its Walls

Lily (aged 11): "It was really good. It was really scary. But, like, jump scary."

Daddy: Kinda going after the JK Rowling audience (if Harry Potter was homeschooled). But without the charm and a rather irritating young lead.

Avengers Infinity War

Lily (aged 10): "It was funny but the sad bits really made you feel it."
Daddy: Very, very slick. The dialogue had been polished to within an inch of its life to deliver zinger after zinger. This helped lift the movie and keep it entertaining throughout.

Isle Of Dogs

Lily (aged 10): "I loved it, it was awesome. I didn't think it would be funny. But at points it was."

Daddy: Incredible stop motion and a treat if you love that low key, middle class 'debating society' dialogue Wes Anderson is known for. Might have been a touch overlength.

Lily (aged 10) "I loved it. It was very funny."

Daddy: In fairness, I laughed a couple of times. But the dialogue wasn't great, relying on James Corden to bring the laughs through his personality.

Lily (aged 10): "I loved it. I liked the idea. I liked the songs. I liked the performances and the costumes."

Daddy: It felt like a big budget version of the sugary musicals on The Disney Channel. And perfectly acceptable as such.
