Lily (aged 8): "I really liked it. My two favourite bits were when they met up with Chewbacca and Han Solo and when...(SPOILER)."
Daddy: Hmmm. Lots of really good bits (particularly the two young leads). But too much reliance on rehashed old Star Wars ideas. And it did feel like it was dragging about halfway in... Overall, I'd say more Han So-so than Obi Win.

Lily (aged 8): "It was monsteriffic. My favourite bit was when the older person said 'that thing on your head looks like my grandma's boobies.'

Daddy: The film's catchphrase of 'blah, blah, blah' also serves as a spot on review. And I fell asleep twice in the middle.

Lily (aged 8): "It was cool, but I'd warn people to watch it in 2D before they see it in 3D because when the croc leaped up it scared me. But it was kinda awesome as well. Apart from the scary bit it was cool."

Daddy: The film showcased a lot of visual ideas. And you'd seen every single one of them before. I couldn't help namechecking each sequence, Moulin Rouge, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc...

Inside Out

Lily (aged 8): "I liked every single bit. It was very funny, it also brought your emotions."
Daddy: Very clever and very deep, so enjoyable on many levels. It would be churlish to point out a couple of riffs were pinched from earlier Pixar successes, but a very good addition to their catalogue.

Minions

Lily (aged 8): "It was a really nice comedy film. Bob was so cute. It was really funny when Bob was king and he wanted all the guards to dress like minions. I loved the bit at the end where they showed Gru."
Daddy: It had a lot of gags in and I did chuckle quite a bit throughout. But it's inconsequential stuff and just a series of funnies rather than a memorable story.

Cinderella

Lily (aged 7): "I liked it. I really liked it. I liked it at the end, I liked her dress and her bun."
Daddy: A slick and traditional live retelling of the story. The poster is interesting as it devotes a lot of space to the costume rather than the star - I'd say that was a metaphor for the movie. But Mummy cried all the way through and I shed a little tear when they charged £30 for the three of us and a tray of popcorn.

Lily (aged 7 - with guest art by Ella): "I liked all of it except the bit where I didn't cry. And I liked where they all danced at the end. I thought it was better than Frozen but not as good as Maleficent."
Daddy: It was actually quite funny and they had bothered to think about the detail with the aliens, A few amusing digs at corporate culture too, but not necessarily a classic overall.

Lily (aged 7): "It was good. I taught Edith how to do the handshake that was in it."

UPDATE - Daddy (having seen it on DVD): Baymax is a great character, but introduced in a very peculiar storyline. It actually reminded me a lot of Spiderman 2. I hope they'll find a better story for the character going forwards.
