Frozen

Lily (aged 6): "I really like that. It's the best film I've seen in the cinema. Can I have it on DVD for Christmas? I want to watch it again. I felt like I could reach out and grab the snowflakes. I've never come across one with girls that are sisters and a snowman comes to life. And I like the music bits."
Daddy: Enjoyable, with two strong female characters and catchy 'musical theatre' numbers. Visually astonishing and the 3D was actually some of the most impressive I've seen. Not quite as tightly plotted or paced as Tangled though.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2

Lily (aged 6): "I liked the marshmallows and the strawberry. I liked that they said there's a leak in the boat and it wasn't a hole it was a food leak."

Daddy: Quite enjoyable and one of the better recent kids' films. It was genuinely impressive quite how many food-based puns and sight gags they managed to crowbar in.

Turbo

Lily (aged 6): "Not as good as Planes. Sometimes better than my other videos. I liked how Turbo dodged that wheel when he went through it."

Daddy: I realise it was about snails. But even turbo charged, it was still a little slow.

Lily (aged 6): "I liked it, it was a bit sad but that was okay. The bit where the crocodile was kissing the ground was very funny."
Daddy: Not a good one. Very bolted together from other films and again, obvious gags and baffling nods to Lord of the Rings and a 'letter of the law versus bold action' message. Baffling for the target age group, anyway.

Planes

Lily (aged 6): "I liked it but it was a bit sad because he tried and kept on failing. But it was happy because he got to be what he wanted to be. I liked the pink girl at the end."

Daddy: A very slight film. It didn't actually appear to be about anything, other than the superficial plot of underdog-enters-race.

Lily (aged 6): "I liked it because they all made friends and found room for new friends. It had a happy ending and I like happy endings."

Daddy: Planes was on in the other screen. But Lily insisted on this instead...

Monsters University

Lily (aged 6): "I like the cards at the end. I like the one with two legs. He was standing on his hands with them in the air. I prefer the Monsters Inc one."
Daddy: Whilst by no means a classic like the original, It's enjoyable to spend more time with these characters and I found myself laughing out loud in some places.

Despicable Me 2

Lily (aged 6): "I liked the photos of the wedding. I liked lots of things but that's my favourite bit."

Daddy: A few laughs, and some broadening of the Minions which obviously have massive merchandising potential. Amusing enough but inconsequential stuff.

Lily (age 5): "Thumbs up. My favourite characters were the queen and the girl who was the queen and the boy and the fluffy white bird he was on. I liked the story except the other bits - the mouse. The baddies were a bit too scary."
Daddy: A visually interesting attempt to create a mash up of Avatar, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars for the Tinkerbell audience.

Daddy: The movement and physicality of the CGI characters was fantastic. The story was ho hum possessive daddy versus little girl who wants to be free stuff.'

Lily (age 5): "It wasn't as good as the original one... It was a teeny weeny bit not scary."
Daddy: Some nice visuals, but the pace was plodding and it's pretty forgettable. In a word, I'd describe the film as 'unnecessary.'

Frankenweenie

Lily (age 5): "It was a bit sad. My favourite part was when the dog came alive again."
Daddy: It looks absolutely amazing and is obviously a love letter to all the old classic horror movies. But it's pretty much Edward Scissorhands all over again.

Wreck-It Ralph

Lily (age 5): "I liked it. I don't think he really smashed the windows. Only in the game. I want to be Penelope and be a princess."
Daddy: Surprisingly inventive and enjoyable, with an exciting storyline for kids and plenty of classic video game references for the older, nerdier members of the audience. Cough.
